Research data from the research project

For about ten weeks, the sounds and noises of the bee colony living in the soundproof bee box were recorded day and night with several microphones. A total of 2.7 terabytes of data were collected.

Building a "sound library" from the experimental data

This data is now being used by HOBOS of the University of Würzburg and from the AG Kognitive Neuroinformatik at the University of Bremen. Different methods are used for this. HOBOS from the University of Würzburg puts the huge sound file publicly on the internet with the aim of getting lots of people to join in the research by listening to these sounds and reporting back anything noteworthy.

For its part, the University of Bremen is trying to detect patterns and changes in the available data material with search routines using computer technology.

The idea of both approaches is to build up a "sound library".

Repetition of the 2018 experiment

In addition, HOBOS repeated the described research project again in 2018 in order to be able to listen to the bee sounds under scientific conditions.

Test data evaluation

The following data can be compared from our original research project.

  • Temperature in the hive
  • Outside temperature
  • Humidity in the hive
  • Humidity outside
  • Barometer

Measurement data in the hive

Interesting in this context are already the comparable measurements inside and outside the hive.
In addition, the data details on Temperature, Humidity and Water vapour proof can be seen in the following documents.
